MAIN HALL: Community Program: Downstreet Housing
October 7, 2023 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
In even-numbered months, we provide a “Community Program” of public interest. Generally, these include a presentation by a local organization of social interest, selected and presented by the Grange Lecturer.
At our October Program, we will welcome speakers from “Downstreet Housing”, a private non-profit organization.
Their mission is: “Downstreet strengthens the communities of Central Vermont by creating permanently affordable homes, promoting equity and inclusion, and connecting people to the resources and services they need to thrive.”
Speakers will include two representatives from their “HomeOwnership Center”: the Director, Cheryl Moyer, and HomeOwnership Specialist Bill Meckel. they will be talking about:
- What to know before buying a home, from making the down payment to energy efficiency to [what else?]
- How to prevent foreclosures
- An overview of the housing situation in central Vermont and what is being done to alleviate it.
We’ll have an opportunity to ask questions as well as hear their presentation.
Here’s a link to their website, with lots more information about all the things they do: https://downstreet.org/
Here is the PowerPoint presentation which Bill Meckel provided, giving basic information about some of the home-ownership help that DownStreet can provide.
