Grange Meeting
April 2, 2016 @ 5:00 pm - 6:15 pm
THE PUBLIC IS INVITED! Meeting starts at 5:00 PM, for this April meeting.
Grange meetings are the monthly opportunity for members (and friends!) to discuss how our Community Grange is doing financially, and in our mission of community service through maintaining a community hall. We have a small amount of ritual marking the opening and closing of the meeting, and we always do some singing! Grange officers always include a musician, who leads us in songs.
Each month, reports are made about developments in local agriculture, plus reviewing the legislative/political issues that we feel are important–usually related to health care and the environment. We also have a report by about “Health Concerns” by an RN in our membership, who reports on latest research about healthy practices to promote a vigorous and active life for all. Our Treasurer reports on receipts and expenditures. In the last few months, we have successfully campaigned to get the town of Berlin to eliminate our property taxes, in return for offering free use of the Hall by Berlin residents and organizations. We are now working through the implications of that wonderful change, and figuring out the best ways to interface with the Berlin community.
“Suggestions for the Good of the Order” is an opportunity to bring up ideas to strengthen our local Grange and to improve our community mission, for example through sponsoring a kid’s clothing exchange, now happening every 2nd Saturday morning.
To keep up with what we are talking about at Grange meetings, and with the organization in general, sign up to receive “Grange Notes” emails a couple of times a month–sign-up available on the Home Page of the CCG website. Past Notes are posted on the website as well: Grange Notes.
A special treat at this April meeting will be a performance of the “Obligation Ceremony”, a brief performance of our own version of a Grange ritual to welcome new members. We have 3 new people who have joined recently! Please come and see them welcomed formally.
And stay after the meeting for the Community Potluck dinner which follows!
