5:00 to 6:00 MAIN HALL: Are you ready for the….”Food Waste Ban”? and other trashy topics
December 7, 2019 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Starting in July, 2020, all food waste will be banned from all Vermont residential trash. That means, we will all need to figure out what to do with eggshells, coffee grounds, chicken bones, trimmed-off fat, vegetable scraps, and the food our kids won’t eat and leave on their plates. So–do you know what you’ll do?
We’ve invited some experts from the Central Vermont Solid Waste Management District, which is faster to type if I use initials:
Theron Lay-Sleeper (Outreach Coordinator) and Dora Chi (Americorps volunteer) from CVSWMD will talk to us about questions like these:
- How will this be enforced?
- Can I deal with this at home, or do I have to pay someone to take it away?
- OK, I know how to compost for my garden, but what about meat, fish and dairy waste?
- Is there someplace I can drop off my food waste?
We know a lot of people have questions like these, so we offer an opportunity to ask those burning (or stinky) questions. In addition to their presentation, there will be time to ask your particular question, and get answers from these professionals–and from others in the audience! There are lots of knowledgeable people who come to Grange meetings and programs, and they are always willing to share what they know.
In even-numbered months, the Capital City Grange presents a “program” which will be interesting/entertaining/informative for people of all types! We’ll post information about the program, the presenter(s) and the subject here. We plan on audience involvement, so bring your questions, concerns and opinions on the topic for the program with you! No charge, and open to the public!
And please–stay for the Community Potluck from 6:00 to 7:00–always lots of excellent food and excellent socializing–also free and open to all. You can take home leftovers! We don’t want to add to food waste!
