Main Hall & Lower Level: Challenging contra dance (2-5:30 with potluck dinner following)!
June 9 @ 12:00 pm - 6:30 pm
Will Mentor calling, Oliver Scanlon and Max Newman playing!
Though this isn’t a “Montpelier Contra Dance” event, there will likely be a lot of familiar faces at this dance. Will Mentor is the organizer, and he particularly enjoys teaching challenging contra dances to people with some dance experience. If you feel comfortable with little or no teaching of dance moves like Hey for Four, Pass Through to an Ocean Wave, and doing some no-walkthrough contras, you’ll really enjoy this!
This dance is happening on Sunday afternoon, too, so no driving home in the dark–and there will be a potluck afterward to recoup your energy.
I have volunteered to help with set-up–are there a couple of other folks who could come at 12:30 to help roll up mats? I’m sure there will be lots of help with closing up the dance–rolling out the mats is easy! Email me (Tim Swartz) if you can help with opening.
When: Sunday, June 9, 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM
Where: At the Grange Hall
Cost: $12 to $20 sliding scale
Band: Oliver Scanlon on fiddle and mandolin is really well known at our dances, his years in Pete’s Posse as well as other groups, and playing concerts as well as dances. Max Newman on guitar and mandolin is a veteran of wonderful groups like Nor’easter, plus playing with lots of other great musicians. He’s currently playing with The Stringrays. More info and music links are on his website.
