David Feurzeig “Play Every Town” concert for Berlin, followed by a Community Potluck Dinner!

August 21, 2022 @ 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm

  • « Montpelier Church of Christ Bible Study & Worship Service
  • RESUMED: “West African Dance” »

Please join the Grange in welcoming the “Play  Every Town Tour” to Berlin!

Pianist David Feurzeig has played all over  the world…but he has decided to change his performance schedule to align with the changes he sees are needed to reduce global warming.  So instead of getting on a jet to distant countries, as he  has done before, David (who teaches composition at UVM) is only playing concerts that he can get to using his (solar charged) electric car, or public transit.

This is the genesis of “Play Every Town”, his plan to perform in all 252 incorporated towns and cities in Vermont.   We are pleased that the Town of Berlin concert will be in our Grange Hall!

David plays a wide variety of musical styles, from “ancient to classical to jazz, avant-garde and popular traditions”, as it says on the Play Every Town website.  Please see below for program details for this Berlin concert.   He has performed with and been commissioned by groups including the VT Symphony Orchestra, VT Contemporary Music Ensemble, and the Bella Voce Women’s Choir.   You can read more about him, his career and his reasons for making this significant change in his professional career on the website linked above.

Here’s David’s description of what he’ll be playing for this concert–and his Berlin-based guest artists:

Each program includes local customization. In honor of Hungarian composer and sometime summer Berlin resident Bela Bartok, concert no. 10 will include Berlin pianist Sylvia Parker in 4-hand arrangements of selections from Bartok’s Mikrokosmos and a Hungarian Dance of Johannes Brahms, as well as David’s own composition “Bela’s Blues”. Soprano and recent Berlin resident Grace Chris will join David for vocal selections. Solo piano works, including David’s “Double Suite” interweaving Bach’s Partita no. 1 with ragtime and other American vernacular dance pieces, will round out the program. Like every performance on the tour, this one will include its own unique Scarlatti keyboard sonata: no. 10 for this tenth concert in the project.

Capital City Grange is pleased to sponsor this concert, which is free and open to the public, and will start at 4:00 PM.

We invite you to stay afterward for the Community Potluck dinner at 5:30 PM, a Grange tradition that will give you a chance to:

  • Meet some more friendly folks who like good music, and support community projects
  • Taste other people’s favorite dishes for sharing
  • Show off your culinary specialities
  • We also welcome last-minute pickups–ice cream, chips ‘n’ salsa, bread and cheese…there are so many good choices!
  • Enjoy the Grange’s vintage dishes–no paper plates or plastic forks needed!

We hope you will join us!
