DESCRIPTION:Join us for an all-waltz session\, 7:00 to 7:45!\nThis night\, we offer one of our special waltz sessions before the contra dance starts at 8:00.   The same band that will play for the contra dance will set up early\, and play waltzes\, starting at 7:00.  If you enjoy the waltzes that are traditionally the last dance before the break\, and at the end of the contra dance just before 11:00\, this is an opportunity to do some extra waltzing! \nWe ask for an additional payment of $5 for the waltz session\, so we can pay the band and sound tech for extra playing and early setup\, in addition to the usual contra dance admission. \nCheck the contra dance listing to see info about the band playing for the waltz session. \nWaltz sessions:  every other month! \nWe’re scheduling a waltz session in every odd-numbered month (January\, March\, May\, July\, September & November)\, before the 3rd Saturday contra dance!   If  this is too confusing\, check the website Calendar\, which will have all the info about all the dances.   You can also sign up for the Montpelier Contra Dance email newsletter.   We send out info about waltzes\, contras\, bands and callers a few days before each one.   Sign up at:  https://eepurl.com/dOBuVn \nCOVID policy note:  \nWaltzing and contra dancing are joyful and community oriented — and always involve some risk. SUMMARY:FREE:  Grange "Barbecue/Community Potluck Dinner"--outside!
DESCRIPTION:On the first Saturday of every month (with a few exceptions for holidays)\, we host a Community Potluck dinner\, which is open to all\, and free!\nSaturday\, Aug. 1\, we’ll have an outdoor potluck and barbecue!\nStarting at 5:00 PM\, we’ll be setting up tables on the North end of the Grange Hall\, by the ADA entrance ramp (weather permitting of course!).  If the weather doesn’t cooperate\, we’ll move to the Grange’s fully accessible Lower Level!\nThe Montpelier Senior Jazz Ensemble will provide live music before the meal\, come by 5:45 with your side dishes for the dinner\, and to enjoy the music!\nThe Grange will provide grilles (charcoal and propane)\, plus hamburgers\, vegan burgers\, hot dogs\, buns and condiments…and hand-cranked ice cream\, Blueberry and Vanilla–bring your strong arms to help crank by 5:30\, so it can be ready for dessert!\nWe plan to start eating about 6:00 PM!\nEntertainment:\nWe’ll have music from the Senior Jazz Ensemble\, playing on the ADA entrance porch\, and a performance by the West African Dance Class during the meal.  We also plan to “burn the mortgage”–to celebrate paying off the loan that the VT State Grange gave us in 2008\, which made it possible to build the ADA entrance and the ADA bathroom on the main floor. \nJust Food Hub will be selling tasty Fair Trade treats:  coffee\, chocolates\, nuts and more!   25% of the price will be donated to the Grange!\nYou can also expect the kick-0ff announcement of the Challenge Fundraiser co-sponsored by the Montpelier Contra Dance and the Friends of the Capital City Grange Hall!  For more info\, check out the Donate page on this website. \nPlease bring other tasty treats\, like:\n\n\nAppetizers\n\n\nSoups\n\n\nSalads\n\n\nChips\n\n\nSalsa & dips\n\n\nBreads\n\n\nCheeses\n\n\nSide dishes–veggies\, rice pilafs\, potatoes\, you name it\, we’ll eat it!\n\n\nDesserts–cookies\, cakes\, pies\n\n\nBeverages–cider\, juices\, carbonated beverages\, etc. (all non-alcoholic\, please!)\n\n\nWe always have great-tasting (and well-tested) well water.\n\n\nWe’ll use the Grange’s great selection of vintage china and melamine plates and dinnerware\, and we’ll welcome volunteers to help to wash up after the meal.\nWe hope you’ll join us to meet some new folks\, re-meet some old friends\, talk over what’s happening in the Grange and the rest of the world!\nHere’s a picture from the 2024 event:
