SUMMARY:Waltz before the Contra Dance!
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an all-waltz session\, 7:00 to 7:45!\nThis night\, we offer one of our special waltz sessions before the contra dance starts at 8:00.   The same band that will play for the contra dance will set up early\, and play waltzes\, starting at 7:00.  If you enjoy the waltzes that are traditionally the last dance before the break\, and at the end of the contra dance just before 11:00\, this is an opportunity to do some extra waltzing! \nWe ask for an additional payment of $5 for the waltz session\, so we can pay the band and sound tech for extra playing and early setup\, in addition to the usual contra dance admission. \nCheck the contra dance listing to see info about the band playing for the waltz session. \nWaltz sessions:  every other month! \nWe’re scheduling a waltz session in every odd-numbered month (January\, March\, May\, July\, September & November)\, before the 3rd Saturday contra dance!   If  this is too confusing\, check the website Calendar\, which will have all the info about all the dances.   You can also sign up for the Montpelier Contra Dance email newsletter.   We send out info about waltzes\, contras\, bands and callers a few days before each one.   Sign up at:  https://eepurl.com/dOBuVn \nCOVID policy note:  \nWaltzing and contra dancing are joyful and community oriented — and always involve some risk. DESCRIPTION:On the first Saturday of every month (with a few exceptions for holidays)\, we host a Community Potluck dinner\, which is open to all\, and free!\nPlease join us in the Lower Level of the Grange Hall\, which (since March\, 2023) is accessible via the wheelchair lift\, so that everyone can attend\, including those with mobility limitations!\nWe encourage everyone to bring whatever they wish to eat and share–we welcome:\n\nAppetizers\nSoups\nSalads\nChips\nSalsa & dips\nBreads\nCheeses\nMain dishes–casseroles\, curries\, roast meats\, roasted vegetables\, you name it\, we’ll eat it!\nSide dishes–veggies\, rice pilafs\, potatoes\, you name it\, we’ll eat it!\nDesserts–cookies\, cakes\, pies\, ice cream\nBeverages–cider\, juices\, carbonated beverages\, etc. (all non-alcoholic\, please!)\nWe have great-tasting (and well-tested) well water.\n\nWe’ll use the Grange’s great selection of vintage china and melamine plates and dinnerware\, and a couple of volunteers will help to wash up after the meal.\nWe hope you’ll join us to meet some new folks\, re-meet some old friends\, talk over what’s happening in the Grange and the rest of the world!

SUMMARY:LOWER LEVEL--Grange chili contest!
DESCRIPTION:Please bring your chili to the LOWER LEVEL at 4:15 PM!\n   \nYou can bring the chili in your own crockpot\, or pour it into one of the ones we will have available\, to keep it warm and tasty for the judges to sample.   Please bring along a copy of the recipe you used to make it (or made  up as you cooked this batch!).  Please put your name inside an envelope so that the judges won’t know who made it\, so we can identify the winners after they make the  difficult decision. \nGrange Sing-along will be happening upstairs\, as we drool with the odors of the chili contest from downstairs.   Here are some details\n\n\nThere are 2 divisions:  with meat\, and without meat.  The latter may be made with meat substitutes.  Please label which division yours should be judged in\, but do not put your name on the label!\n\n\nNo chili made from a pre-packaged or canned chili is eligible.   No pre-packaged chili spice mixes are eligible either–we want truly home-made dishes to be entered.\n\n\nRemember:  there is no prize for the “hottest” chili–we want tasty dishes that everyone who wants to can enjoy\, without suffering!\n\n\nWe hope you will make plenty\, so that potluck attendees will be able to sample the entries!\n\n\nGrange members and non-members are welcome to submit entries.  We are encouraging other potluck folks to make other types of dishes\, since not everyone wants to eat only chili for dinner!\n\n\nCooking contest judging criteria established by the State Grange include:\n\nFlavor:  40 points\nAppearance:  20 points\nTexture:  20 points\nEasy preparation:  20 points\n\n\n\nThe entries that get the highest awards from the judges will receive a certificate suitable for framing\, and possibly a small prize\, as well as bragging rights\, of course.\n\n\nFor more information\, call Marty Roberts at 802-223-5506\, or email isabella1813@yahoo.com.\n\n\nAnyone is welcome to bring your chili to State Grange Family Camp at the Grange Center in Brookfield in July (date TBD) to be judged for State recognition\, as well as entering our local contest!
