DESCRIPTION:Summit School’s Mud Season Spectacular\nKicking off at the Grange on Friday evening!\nAdmission: sliding scale $5-$15\, at the door\nThe Summit School of Traditional Music & Culture remembers Pete Sutherland on Friday\, March 31\, 2023 at 7pm with a showcase of youth traditional musicians from central Vermont. Pete was an avid supporter of youth musicians of all ages and impacted the lives of both student fiddlers and teachers throughout his home state of Vermont. The traditions carry on through fiddle jams\, trad band classes\, singing\, composing\, and dancing\, all alive and well in the community. The showcase will be followed by an introductory Balfolk dance – a fun accessible\, European-style folk dance. The dance will be played and called by multi-instrumentalist and talented teacher Nicholas Williams from Waterville\, Quebec\, and a group of visiting Quebecois youth musicians. \nYouth musicians (ages 8-20\, with or without adults) are invited to perform on Friday\, March 31st by submitting a request and short bio to Joanne Garton\, fiddler\, dancer\, and Summit School Board Member\, via joannegarton@gmail.com. Governor and others \, with refreshments:  cookies\, coffee and tea.\nWe’ll also have an “Information Fair” with table displays and representatives from many community service organizations.  These will include: \n\nBerlin Emergency Management (Fire & Fast Squad)\nBerlin Historical Society\nCapital City Grange\nCapstone Community Action\nCentral Vermont Community Harvest\nCub Scout Pack #777:  bringing a craft project!\nEfficiency Vermont: bringing free “Energy Savings Kits” to give away–LEDs and more!\nJust Food Hub:  selling fair-trade food products to benefit non-profit organizations\, including the Grange–and giving out some free samples!\nKellogg-Hubbard Library\nKids Trade & Play\nMadDog Chapter\, Trout Unlimited\nMontpelier Church of Christ\nUVM Extension Service & 4H\nVT AFL-CIO\nVT Center for Independent Living\n\nFrom 3:00 to 4:30:  a community dance\, open to all ages and experience levels!\nWell-known dance caller Luke Donforth will teach and lead dances for kids\, parents\, grandparents\, aunts and uncles–and everyone who wants to dance!   Live music will be provided by the Vermont Fiddle Orchestra (who rehearse in our Hall every week). \nThis will be a fun way to mark a milestone in making the Grange Hall accessible and even more welcoming to all people\, and we look forward to having you join us! \nFor more information\, contact Tim Swartz\, Grange President:  swartztim15@gmail.com \nThis wheelchair/platform lift project is partially funded by a grant from the VT Arts Council’s Cultural Facilities Grant Program\, which is made possible by funding from the State of Vermont.  Additional funds were provided by generous donations from Grange members\, Grange Hall users including the Montpelier Contra Dance community\, and individuals and organizations that support our mission of providing a Community Hall for Berlin and Central Vermont.
