“BALKAN DANCE PARTY” – Main Hall & Kitchen/Cafeteria (2-10pm)

Sponsored by VILLAGE HARMONY, this Dance Party will feature a great traditional wedding band, KABILE, visiting from Bulgaria.

Kabile, one of Bulgaria’s premier traditional wedding bands, will make  rare appearance in Vermont, performing and playing for a dance party on Sunday, August 27, 3-6 pm at the Montpelier Grange Hall on Rte 12.  Admission is $20 at the door.  There will be a potluck supper following.

First formed in Bulgaria in 1980, this is a part of a reunion tour of of this beloved band which last toured the US in 2012.  The group specializes in performing native music on traditiional instruments.  Two of the group are now based in New York:  featured singer Donka Koleva, and her husband Nikolay Kolev, vitruoso on the gadulka, the traditional Bulgarian fiddle with sympathetic strings.  The other three band  members, from Bulgaria, include: Dzhenko Adndreev on gaida, the Bulgarian bagpipe; Nikolay Doktorov on kaval, the Bulgarian end-blown flute; and Ivan Handzhiev on vocals and accordion.  All of them have been regular teachers at multiple American Balkan music camps.
